Here is the plan for the Big Row, 2023:
When: September 5, 2023 through September 8, 2023
Where: Starting at the Mabee Farm, Rotterdam Junction, New York on the Mohawk River, ending at Herkimer Home.
Distance: 50 miles or so.
Daily schedule:
Monday, September 4: Any one who needs a place to stay is welcome at my house.
Tuesday, September 5: Starting at our home dock at the Mabee Farm, we’ll row west on the Mohawk River. We will camp at Schoharie Crossing near the Putnam Store site. Distance about 13 miles.
Wednesday, September 6: Row to Lock 13. Note that this lock is also a state throughway rest area. I aim for us to camp as far east on the lawn as possible. Distance about 11.5 miles.
Thursday, September 7: Row to Lock 15. There is an official canal trail camping area. Distance about 12.5 miles.
Friday, September 8: Row to Herkimer Home. Distance about 13 miles.
Saturday, September 9 – Sunday, September 10: participate in the reenactment at Herkimer Home.
